Q. What is
spectroscopy? How does atomic spectroscopy differ from
molecular spectroscopy?
Ans. It is the study of
interaction of electromagnetic radiations with matter.
Atomic spectroscopy is
concerned with the interaction of electromagnetic radiations with atoms which
are most commonly in their lowest energy state known as gr6und state.
Molecular spectroscopy is
concerned with the interaction of electromagnetic radiations with molecules. In
this case transitions occur between rotational and vibrational energy levels in
addition to electronic transitions.
